“They’re not used to it—but I am,” Fermin quips as she vows to face court over cyber libel case
MANILA, Philippines – Feisty showbiz commentator Cristy Fermin has broken her silence after the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 93 issued an arrest warrant against her and two co-hosts over a cyber libel case filed by actress Bea Alonzo.
Far from panicked, Fermin appeared unfazed and even threw a few sharp remarks, saying she’s used to this kind of legal trouble—unlike her co-hosts Rommel Villamor and Wendell Alvarez, who were also named in the case.
“Wala kaming alam… Ako lang ang sanay na,” Fermin said in an interview with Bandera, referring to the arrest order. (“We didn’t know… I’m the only one who’s used to this.”)
While Fermin admitted she was surprised by the headlines, she confirmed that her legal team would process bail—set at ₱48,000 per respondent—on Thursday, July 31.
She reiterated this commitment in a separate interview on Frontline sa Umaga, saying the nature of her work has made her no stranger to libel accusations.
“Kasama na sa trabaho namin ‘yan,” she said, brushing off the case as something that comes with the territory of showbiz commentary. (“It’s already part of our job.”)
The charges stem from cyber libel complaints filed by Bea Alonzo in May 2024, who claimed that Fermin’s online shows spread “false, malicious, and damaging” information about her—particularly during the aftermath of Alonzo’s public breakup with actor-model Dominic Roque.
Fermin had discussed, without solid proof, rumors surrounding Alonzo’s personal life and tax obligations. The actress, who had long chosen to stay silent on gossip, said this time was different—prompting her first formal legal action in decades.
Fermin, however, maintains her innocence, previously saying:
“Hindi po namin maaaring punahin si Bea Alonzo lamang para kumita ang aming mga vlogs… Lahat ng mga kwento ay inilalatag po namin.”
(“We don’t single out Bea Alonzo to profit from our vlogs… We present all stories as they are.”)
The media veteran’s calm and candid response has since stirred mixed reactions online—some accusing her of arrogance, others applauding her poise under pressure.
With the bail set and the legal proceedings soon underway, fans and industry insiders are watching closely to see how this celebrity vs. columnist showdown will play out in court.
